Monitoring with HP Network Node Manager

Our customer is an internationally leading technology group with many subsidiaries and joint ventures worldwide. The group operates in the field of financial management and electronical monetary transactions. Due to that, security is of particular importance to the company, especially in the field of the IT structure.

The situation

The whole process chain of the company depends on the services of the internal IT organisation. The IT service portfolios as well as the steady modernisation of the leading technologies require a high-performance network mangagement. In order to ensure that all subsidiaries can access the enterprise resource planning system and databases at all times, a permanent and secured connection must be guaranteed. The existing IT management solutions were not able to cope with the increasing requirements concerning flexibility and assurance of availability in the production. For the allocation of a suitable automatic discovery of the network components and the network management as well as the malfunction and performance monitoring, netage solution was taken on as an external consultant by the IT organisation. We analysed the existing network and performance management and together with our customer we developed a new conception. The existent system HP Network Node Manager 6.4. did not work in a web-based manner, which meant that other modern management software was hardly capable of being integrated.


Realisation

Since 2007, netage has been supporting the customer with the operation of the network and performance management. Furthermore, netage has been jointly responsible for the daily operating of the environment since 2008. The services include all services concerning the network infrastructure and the security management. Here, our consultants act as go-between to the first level support. Besides the mere operating, the project objective consisted of the reorganisation of the network monitoring environment. With the introduction of the HP Network Node Managers NNMi 8 and the integration of other web-based programmes a platform was generated in which all components are connected. This allows the customer a more efficient management of hardware, software, and the performance data.

The following tasks are part of the netage consultants job:

• Operation and quality control of the monitoring infrastructure within the framework of the first and second level support
• Quality control and integration of new monitoring modules
• Consulting service  for the users in regard to the monitoring of applications and infrastructures
• ITIL – Incident, Problem and Change management
• Cut surface between development and user for the implementation of changes
• ensuring the Service Level Agreements within the framework of the incident management
